In order to prevent any damage, it's essential to clean a flat screen TV with care. Read here to find a step-by-step guide for an easy-peasy process.

Know Before You Clean...

If you think that your flat screen LCD TV can be cleaned by a window cleaning solution, you can't be farther than the truth. The point here is that the panel is not similar to the older models we used to have. Those television sets were made of thick glass which could easily be cleaned with a window cleaner and a paper towel.
Of course, this method did remove all the dirt and fingerprints off the screen. However, if you make the mistake of following the same cleaning method now, you'll just end up making a huge error.
The TV's panel is made of specifically-designed flexible plastic. If you apply any cleaner with chemicals in it, chances are you're going ruin its surface. That's not what the results will always be, but there is a possibility. So why take a chance?
The protective layer on your TV needs special care and cleaning them with harsh chemicals (which includes ammonia, glycerin, alcohol, etc.) can be disastrous. Also, just wiping them with kitchen or paper towels should be avoided. Sometimes, you can end up scratching the delicate surface or leave lint on the surface.

Best Possible Technique

It could be possible that you got scared about keeping your television panel away from chemicals. Well, the point here was to keep you alert and tell you what you shouldn't do. So to summarize, no chemical cleaners, no liquid spray cleaners, and no paper towels, newspapers, or magazines.
When you want to clean flat screen LCD TV, you can either search for a commercial cleaner which specifically says that it is safe for laptop, LCD, and plasma screens. Only then, you should use the cleaner with a soft, cotton towel for cleaning. But there is another method to clean the TV.
  • First of all, turn the television off and wait till the screen is completely dark (some models take a little time). When the screen is black, you can easily make out where the dirt and fingerprints are.
  • Take a soft cotton towel to wipe it first. Make sure you are not pressing on the screen too harshly.
  • You can either wet the cloth, make a mixture of distilled water and white vinegar (equal parts), or use a liquid detergent gel to clean tough stains.
  • Wipe off the cleaning product you used with another clean cotton towel. This will restore your television's optimal view.
Follow the tips and instructions mentioned here, and you'll be left with a clean, unharmed screen.
