Troubleshooting Laptop Screen Problems

Touching the Screen

The problem of spots occurring on laptop screen is common. The display when touched with fingers, makes the liquid to move and thereby creates a vacuum. The dryness which is caused by this activity results into the alteration of the picture quality. One should thus, avoid touching the screens.

Laptop Screen Goes Black

In some cases, the laptop display goes black. In a few cases, red and green colored lines appear on the screen. If this is the case, one should check all the connections and restart the computer.

Small Screen Size

The size of screens may appear smaller due to different bands which obstruct the view. Many times, black colored border/bands appears on sides of the display; in short, the side of the display goes black. In such cases, the problem may lie in the LCD inverter or GPU.
One should try plugging the LCD port into another LCD monitor; if the problem is resolved, then there is definitely a problem with the inverter. If the problem persists even after plugging it into another laptop, the GPU can be faulty.

Laptop Screen Protector

Damage caused to the laptop screen can be reduced to a great extent by the use of a protector. These protectors also come with features such as an anti-glare film. The problems in viewing the display due to the background light are also minimized by using a protector.

Laptop LCD Screen Repair

It is possible to repair the laptop on your own if proper information and know how about the repairing process is obtained. One can also save a few bucks, by repairing it at home. In the process of repairing, one should also check whether the other components are functioning properly; it can be done by plugging the VGA-out port to an external monitor.
Examining the laptop helps in understanding various other problems too. The first step in repairing a laptop is removing the battery and disconnecting the power brick. To remove the screen, one would require a flat-head screwdriver.
Once the screws are removed, the bezel should be taken out. Working the fingers in the area between the screen and bezel helps in loosening it. The first thing to examine after removing the bezel, is to check for broken wires or loose connections.
If a certain component needs replacement, one should note down its part number and shop for it online. Purchasing it from the manufacturer though, is a safe bet, however, it may require you to incur a high cost.
If the LCD screen is broken, the cables between the notebook and display need to be disconnected. The video cable should be disconnected by removing the tape and unplugging the connector present at the backside of LCD.
The power cable between the inverter and LCD should also be removed. The screws that hold the LCD to the metal frame should be removed to replace it. Once the new screen is installed, the video cable and inverter should be connected to it.
One should learn how to repair laptop screen problems at home by understanding the simple procedural techniques. Complicated problems should however, be handled only by experts.
